Baguio's White Cane Safety Week

white cane safety week (Update 14 Aug) Due to inclimate weather, the parlor games were re-scheduled to 4 August after the Cultural & Talent Show and the sportsfest is re-scheduled to 28-29 August.

The 10th White Cane Safety Week will be celebrated beginning with a motorcade and opening program on 4 August 2008, featuring Guest Speaker Mr. Desiderio Gapasin, who has excelled as an outstanding PWD entrepreneur. The program will be followed by a Cultural and Talent Show presented by the schools of the disabled students and an eye/ear screening by Project Luke.

MOA with (RCHi) NLAB signed

Last July 16, 2008, the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands (RCHi) signed with the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind, Inc. (NLAB) a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that will assist NLAB's service to the Visually Impaired Children (VIC) in Western Pangasinan. RCHi also promised to contact their sisterclubs and other rotary clubs within NLAB's territory for similar assistance.

Philippines to celebrate White Cane Safety Day

stamp.jpgMANILA (27 July) -- August 1 is White Cane Safety Day in the Philippines, but few people understand the significance of this important event in the life of the visually impaired brethren.

The celebration of White Cane Safety Day started when the Congress of the Philipines passed into law Republic Act No. 6759, more popularly known as the "White Cane Act" and signed into law by then President Corazon C. Aquino.
